Susan always loved to draw since childhood. Her high school art teacher encouraged her to major
in art in college. What she really wanted to do was illustrate medical books, but when she found out you had to go to medical school just like a would-be doctor she decided against it. Susan is a homebody so she majored in art at Bridgewater State College. She loved the art program there. Her favorite classes were the drawing classes, most especially portraiture. Pencils and pastels were her favorite mediums back then. She graduated in 1983 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
In the late 1980's Susan took a craft class which introduced her to acrylic painting. She liked the short drying time as opposed to oils and she eventually started designing her own projects. She sells her work at shows and has been teaching acrylic painting since 2000. In 2001 and 2002 she had 2 decorative painting books published, "It's Great to Create", and "It's Great to Create, Vol.2".
Although her work now is whimsical, Susan’s traditional drawing roots help her create some realism when needed. She has been making and selling prints of her current paintings. Susan has recently joined an on-line store for handmade art called Etsy. You can view her current paintings at www.susanville.etsy.com.
